Hampton Congregational Church currently has an active Prayer Shawl Ministry. It’s based on the ministry established in 1998 by Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo, and arose out of their experience in the program at Women’s Leadership Institute at Hartford Seminary. This ministry combines the love of knitting and care for others into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those who might benefit from connection, or support of any kind. The knitter starts each shawl with prayers and blessings. Intentions are knit into the shawl. Once the shawl is complete, it’s blessed as part of our worship, before being sent along its way.
Our shawls are intended to be given to those who might benefit from a gift of celebration, support during an illness or time of recovery, comfort after a loss…the possibilities are endless! If you would like more information on how to knit shawls (no knitting, crocheting or sewing experience is necessary!), or if you know of someone who would benefit from receiving one of our shawls, please call Karen Burnham at 860.455.0647, Pastor Jinny at 860.490.9730 or Kelli at the Church at 860.455.9677.
